Numerous listed buildings are full of mediaeval charm mixed in with baroque architecture. Bamberg has a lot to offer, like the Bamberger Symphony Orchestra and the famous Bamberg Beer gardens. We would like to suggest to our guests to visit and experience the following events:
The prince-bishop's tour is one of the highlights for cyclists in the Bamberg region. Besides feeling close to nature, they also experience unforgettable cultural highlights. The 3-4 day tour winds through the region between the Steigerwald Forest and Franconian Switzerland. The legacy of 800 years of rule by the prince bishops unfurls, as the many art treasures they left behind are gradually revealed.
The valley path runs through typical Franconian villages and small towns with their charming half-timbered houses, whilst the canal route follows the course of the Main-Danube Canal and the River Regnitz. Besides the town itself, it is well worth visiting some of Bamberg's museums as well as towns such as Forchheim, Erlangen and Nuremberg.
In Heiligenstadt to the east of Bamberg, cyclists can rise to the challenge of three mountain bike routes.
All three tours are circuits which mean that they can be joined at any point along the route. In addition, short cuts can also be made at various points along the trail. Those burning for a new challenge can combine all three routes, which together cover a distance of 128 kilometres, rising to heady heights of 2,500 metres.
The nature of Bavaria invites you to enjoy a plethora of leisure activities.
With its seven hills and enchanting narrow lanes, Bamberg is predestined to be explored on foot. However, not only the town but also the surrounding region is a paradise for walkers of all standards.
The Hauptsmoorwald forest which is full of towering pine trees which were once used for ships masts is the aim of this relaxing stroll. On this trail, walkers pass through parts of Strullendorf community.
What better way to discover the unusually wide variety of beers in western Upper Franconia - a region with the world's highest density of private breweries - than by bike?
This circular tour can start from various places and leads to more than 80 private breweries. The typically Franconian beer cellars invite you to stop for a welcome, thirst-quenching drink. Besides savouring the delicious beers, visitors can find out more about beer brewing and the importance of beer to the region.
Softly rolling hills and cultural diversity perhaps best describe "Franconian Tuscany", the region around Litzendorf and Memmelsdorf.
On this large circular route, walkers will appreciate the view from the singer's memorial of the Franconian singing society. The early Celtic burial hills near Melkendorf form an ideal spot to rest tired feet whilst a small Chapel of the Virgin Mary by Litzendorf is perfect for a few moments of quiet comtemplation.
